The princess spent more than a quarter of a century in Siberia, she lived in Irkutsk for almost a decade. Ekaterina Ivanovna embodied the best features of her contemporaries. Parents named his daughter Catherine in honor of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine, which was a certain sign of fate, the foreshadow of the life of an ascetic and complete overcoming.

But all this later, and at the dawn of Katashi’s life, as her family was called, it seemed that only happiness foreshadowed everything. The parents of Catherine - Count and Countess Laali - some of the richest people of the northern capital, her environment are the best representatives of high society, diplomats, politicians, poets and scientists. The wealth of parents allowed Countess Catherine to see the world outside the Russian capitals, Vienna, Venice, Naples, Rome and Paris.

It was in Paris in the year that the countess met her love - Prince Sergei Trubetskoy, and in the year she chose her fate, becoming Princess Trubetskoy. Trubetskoy for four years of careless marriage under the canopy of the parental palace on the English embankment, the princess did not see clouds on the horizon, but they were inevitably approaching, and then collapsed to the princess with a thunderstorm on December 14th.

Everything changed, as if in an instant, and now her husband is no longer a prince, not a hero of the past war, not a Life Guards Colonel. Now Sergey Trubetskoy is a state criminal who awaits Siberia. While the husband was expecting his fate in the fortress, the princess prayed to God only about one thing, for the preservation of His life. It is not the fact that the life of her husband will now be the life of the convict and the exile scared Catherine, scared her only the inability to divide this fate.

And then the highest mercy, permission to follow her husband was received for hard labor, twenty -five Siberian years were waiting ahead. The Blagodsky mine, the Chita prison, the prison of the Petrovsky plant - is the geography of more than ten hard labor, and after that - six settlement years in Oyok and nine years in Irkutsk. All these years have been full for the princess with care for her husband and children.

Only here, in Siberia, Ekaterina Ivanovna found the joy of motherhood, giving the wife of seven children. Here she had to survive a serious loss of three of them. All the hardships of fate, the departure of children and relatives, illness and wanderings helped her overcome the Christian faith. The coat of arms of the family of Lalev, becoming the mistress of the house in the Znamensky suburbs of Irkutsk, the princess turned him to the shelter for the suffering and a shelter for pupils.

Not far from this house, his mistress found her last earthly shelter.

She was released only 53 years and was destined to leave this world to the wife of a non -sophisticated state criminal, she was also destined to become the legend of our city. The Zaushakovsky house of the Trubetskiy Irkutski did not save, but the grave of the princess and three of her children at the wall of the Znamensky Church had long become a memorable place of the capital of Eastern Siberia.

And another house of Trubetskoy, along Arsenalskaya Street, now Dzerzhinsky became a museum, where the memory of the first Decembrist lives, about the princess - the exile, about the feat of her love for almost half a century. By the birthday of Ekaterina Ivanovna, employees of the Irkutsk Museum of the Decembrists prepared a quest based on events from the life of Princess Trubetskoy.
