His father, Andrei Prokhorovich, was then in military service, and soon forced to go with the family to Orenburg. The greatest danger expected a little Krylov and his mother there. Extreme poverty and hope for a pension for her husband’s service forced his mother to go with her son from Tver to St.

Petersburg. They arrived here in the year and lived in great need. Although Krylov gave a place in the service here, he received a salary of only 25 rubles a year.
