Briefly Darwins biography
Darwin Charles Charles Robert Darwin, is an English natural scientist, creator of the theory of the origin of the species by natural selection. The son of a doctor was born on February 12, Charles showed interest in living nature from early childhood, which was also facilitated by his grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, a famous natural scientist. At the request of his father, Charles entered the University of Edinburgh at the medical faculty.
Soon, seeing his son’s indifference to medical sciences, his father invited him to elect the profession of a priest, and in Darwin he began to study theology in Cambridge.
Here he met a brilliant specialist in the field of natural sciences J. Genzlo and with a connoisseur of Wales geology A. Communication with them, excursions and work in the field prompted Charles to abandon the career of the clergyman. On the recommendation of Genzlo, he took part as a naturalist in a round -the -world swimming on the Bigl ship. During this expedition, which lasted in December, his responsibilities included collecting collections and a description of the plants and animals of the British colonies in South America.
In Brazil and Uruguay, Darwin discovered 80 species of birds, and also found a jaw of megateria - an extinct giant sloth and a tooth of a fossil horse. These findings, indicating that the animal world of Latin America was once completely different, made him think about the causes of change and development of nature. Having connected the evolution of living organisms with changes in living conditions, he suggested that the emergence of new species obeys certain laws.
The final impetus for the design of reflection in the scientific theory was Darwin's stay in Galapagos. This corner of the earth is practically isolated from the rest of the world, and on the example of local bird species, it was possible to trace the ways of changing living forms depending on the state of the environment. Darwin returned home with a load of collections and diary entries.
He began processing materials in London, then continued to work in the Downed - a small town near the capital. The very first articles on geology and biology based on data received during the trip, put Darwin in a number of the largest scientists of Great Britain in particular, he nominated his version of the formation of coral reefs. But his main thing was the creation of a new evolutionary theory.
In the year, a year later, when Darwin was 50 years old, his fundamental work “The origin of the species by natural selection, or the preservation of favorable breeds in the struggle for life”, was published and made a real sensation, and not only in the scientific world. Darwin developed his teaching in the book “The Origin of Man and Sexual Selection”: he considered arguments in favor of the fact that people lead a family from a monkey -like ancestor.
The views of Darwin formed the basis of the materialistic theory of the evolution of the organic world of the Earth and, in general, served the enrichment and development of scientific ideas about the origin of biological species. On the night of April 18, he was buried in Westminster Abbey.
