Biography Metallica
It does not work about the participants despite the permanent graters with each other, Metallica managed to only go away for long breaks and never announced the decay. The way they hold each other is generally worthy of admiration. The childhood of the founder of Metallica was difficult: the strict supervision of parents, the imposition of strange conspiracy ideas, no individual freedom, all this led to the cultivation of the rebellious spirit in the young jim, which forced him to write in the graduation album: “I want to become a rock star.” And he became, whatever one may say.
Lars Ulrich’s hands could not beat the drums, but tennis balls: following the example of his father, he planned to go into great sport, but quickly realized that he was deprived of talent, so he stopped even trying and decided to achieve great success in music. True, his group comrades are sure that he is also deprived of musical talent - we will not undertake something so radical.
Criminal, because the bassist was kicked out for a rather rampant lifestyle and an excessive love for a stake. The stem was subjected to everyone who was visible through the veil of Haer in front of his eyes. We are not trying to include psychologists, but it is possible that Dave was played out for a painful childhood: his father was brutally treated, and even when his mother escaped, he pursued her endlessly.
I would like to believe that in the "Devil's music" Dave finally found his promised land. Kirk Hammett came to the place of Mastai and, according to a rather cocky bassist, still rests on his laurels, playing the solo he wrote and receiving the titles of the “best guitarist” for it. But Kirk, very modest and Christian, never held evil on him for it. His sympathy and understanding even helped two musicians establish a good, almost trusting relationship with each other.
Kirk bought his first guitar with the money earned at the Burger King, so there were enough jokes about unemployed humanities, everyone was there, and already in adulthood he learned to play with Joe Satriani himself. The teachers may not have surpassed it, but he formed his style anyway. Cliff Berton was the main favorite of the group - well -read, cheerful and, of course, very talented.
Although, perhaps, it seems to us, because he died young - or in contrast to Deive Mastain. In addition to Metallica, he is involved in the creation of another cult group, Faith No More, whose participants gathered in his school years. When the cliff was 13, his older brother, who dreamed of becoming a bassist, died of aneurysm of the brain. The shocked boy promised that in his honor it would certainly become not just a bassist, but one of the best in the world - and became, despite the early death.
Jason Newsted, who can be called without irony by a boy for marking, came to Metallica in the place of Cliff Berton. Not devoid of talent, he, however, could not show him here: it seemed to the musicians that the new one was only the shadow of their beloved, the untimely departed Cliff, and they mocked him in every possible way. They caught the Mastai syndrome, in short.
Naturally, Jason could not stand it and left, although since then he almost did not water Metallica with mud. He creatively realized quite, even began to draw, and in M, he united with a mustain in the “anti -marking” coalition - two former bassists played together in Megadeth, but also did not disperse amicably. In m, after the scandal with Dave Ellefson, there were even rumors that Jason would join the mother -in -law on an ongoing basis, but the great reunion did not happen.
Robert Trujillo was much more lucky. So much so that Hatfield did not even believe that he could join them - he seemed so cool to him. Before Metallica, he infected the participants of the Suicidal Tendencies fan and played in the Ozzi Osbourne group, uh, even goosebumps went, we understand enthusiasm. Now he is responsible for the imitation of the funniest faces in the history of bass guitars and the classic “crab” gait, which will easily give the head start “lunar”.
Two good friends - Lars Ulrich and James Hatfield - really liked each other and decided to make a group. Hat and his friend, the bassist Ron Mcgovni, invited Lars to the group not so much for his ability to play the vocal player and to this day jokes that his comrade plays so -so, but for the manners of a well -educated, rich boy, however, even to buy a full -fledged installation that does not break every minute.
But he came up with a cult name: his friend, a journalist, sorted out different names for the publication about metal, and Metallica was one of them. The estimated drummer told a comrade that the name is disgusting, and took it to himself. At first, the musicians did not perform their own songs, because they were not sure of their quality or in the fact that someone could like it; In rare performances, they played covers for songs of little-known metal groups.
It is very convenient to give out such music for your own, but in the era of the Internet you will be revealed, so we recommend not to repeat at home. The team worked on his own songs, even recorded something, agreed with someone, but the leaders still replaced each other as pictures in a kaleidoscope. The last hope of the group was that you can write an ad in a newspaper and rely on the luck of Jim and Lars somehow met like that, so this is not such a bad idea?
Dave Mustain, who dragged the expensive equipment, responded to the announcement - his potential colleagues were so impressed that they did not even listen to how he played. After all, if a musician spends so much money on a guitar, amplifiers and so on, then he really is in the subject and is seriously treated his business, right? In fact, Mustaine invested, wrote, played well and at first did not create big problems.
When the leaders of the “New Wave of the British Hevi-Metal”, the Saxon group, asked the young musicians if they did not want to perform on the warm-up, they agreed, but with an important condition: so that the audience was popularly explained that the Americans speak before them and that only one “t” in their name! There were geniuses, which were few “l”, and yes, we are also in shock.
Saxon agreed. But Metallica did not call with them full -fledged tour. Lars and James continued to work for the benefit of the team, thinking day and night how to succeed. It seemed to them that Ron plays without much enthusiasm and does not add anything his own to the music, so they need a new bassist. Cliff Berton appeared to them like an archangel from heaven: he then performed with the Trauma group and so elegantly treated the Kvakushka pedal that the Ulrich and Hatfield fell on their concert again by the victims of Technomania.
After all, if the musician knows so much about how to make his music better, then he treats her seriously, right?
Burton really treated creativity seriously: so much that he refused to leave Trauma. Then he still agreed-otherwise we would not have written about him-and demanded that Metallica move to San Francisco, where he lived. What can you do, for the sake of a bassist from God from God? To give money, to record and promote the beginning group, John Zazul, the seller of records from New York, volunteered.
The unfamiliar “person” seemed to Metallica a cat in a bag, but it was a chance that they were not going to miss: they stole a close family trailer, which was enough for the equipment only for the equipment, and rushed to New York. Here they fell under the wing of Anthrax - exactly the same young, promising and complete ambitions of metals. The only thing that distinguished them was a New York registration.
Metallica are located in Music Building: in a rather neglected building, where musicians could rehearse for a couple of hundred bucks. True, while the rest of the residents came for a couple of hours, the trinity of non -named metals lived here and brought the debut album to the mind. Of course, they performed, but there was still very little money - bread with sausage seemed to them a real meal.
The only entertainment was Mastain's tricks, although besides Dave himself they did not please anyone. Sometimes he could drain a bunch of unnecessary garbage into the house late at night, fill up the entrance to the premises of other groups and make a delicious one over it all. These atrocities led to the fact that they bought a ticket to Los Angeles in M, while Dave did not think anything, put him on the bus and sent far, but for a short while: having come to his senses, he collected his own MEGADETH metalline group.
A warm place in Metallica was immediately taken by Kirk Hammett: a modest, quiet, who did not like to run into troubles or arrange them. In an interview, Dave said he would have returned to Metallica, but put several conditions. Firstly, he should have been apologized as it should. Secondly, all the parties given to Kirku and his Mustaine hated more than disco and sugar pop should be taken away from him.
But this is not envy, of course, but just a resentment for their riffs and solo, but offended, as everyone knows perfectly, subordinates Master of Puppets, a kind of puppeteer from the legendary track, so after a short tour, the group returned to the studio and in a couple of months recorded Ride the Lightning, which also included the old, epicly long The tracks that Metallica were no longer afraid of, and something written by the palette.
The success of the album led to the still young musicians noticed a larger label: they were invited to Elektra Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music. They arranged Metallica as their first round in Europe, and with their help, Master of Puppets, now considered the classic of the trash, was published in M. It is even strange that not a single Scandinavian author has yet written a detective about how the famous metallists travel along an icy road in Sweden, how something irreversible brings them and it turns out that these are the consequences of the game with the devil or Kthulhu, which the musicians called on the second album.
After a little thought, in his place the group took Jason Newsted, which she did not experience great love, which they are now very sorry about. He himself was a huge fan and dreamed of taking an empty place, asking endlessly the question: “What if?James and Lars, as the main fathers of Metallica, were treated with such skepticism that in the next album, and Justice for All, published in M, the bass stupidly deputy.
In fairness, everyone waited except the poor fellow of Newsted. But, except for this, we can safely say that after the fourth album Metallica was finally stunned by the “cacophony” of world success, first went to its own world tour and received the first nomination for Grammy-in which, however, she lost. Their fiasco surprised everyone and is still considered one of the main disappointments for the history of the prize in general.
It didn’t work out: if Master of Puppets is considered the best album of the trash-metal, the “broom” of the same name can be safely called the best and one of the most commercially successful albums in general, because almost everyone heard it. The musicians kicked the door to the mainstream from the turn, joined him and quickly became “their own”, despite the objections of the conservatives and everyone who still did not believe in the musical potential of Metal.
For long five years, Metallica earned exclusively on the promotion of the same name: they started to record the material for the next album only in m. After the release of Load to M, the group dramatically changed the image and began to resemble fashionable groups, too easy for those who grew up on Iron Maiden and Kiss, so the fans were archracled. The cherry on the cake was their performance on Lollapalooza, a festival for alternatives, and the second album of songs of a similar style and quality that came out in m.
What to do, metals cannot be evolved-the genre did not allow, but the musicians were very afraid of repeating, thereby angry the pipe and changing the mass culture. There were two whole concerts with a symphony orchestra in San Francisco, as if the “broom” was completely tired of her glory in the world of Trachac and wanted something more civilian. Fans have already filled the belief that something was wrong with Metallica when Ulrich sued Napster-free hosting for the exchange of music.
Oh, these zero, times of piracy and the struggle for paid music! Musicians, still not confident in the values of any bassist, except for Berton’s cliff, worked on St. Anger, without hiring a new musician: Bob Rock took part in the recording both as a producer and in the role of a bassist. The constant auditions of the bassists began only by the beginning of the tour: when the group found Robert Trujillo, they fell in love with him at first sight, and no internal grandschina began.
Admiration, fear and reverence were mutual: the new bassist later said that he was a sign from above - a photo of Berton himself, who blessed Robert in a good way, but, we hope, not on the highway straight to hell. Again, he appeared like an archangel from heaven, and you say that the devil did not care about the new bassist, because musical experiments continued, and St. Nobody liked Anger.
In addition to specialists from Grammy, who gave the group “Best Metal Exit” for this album. Rick Rubin, a stupid producer and an excellent vanity of trends, volunteered to provoke their next release and first said that it would not work - it's time to return to the roots. As a result, Death Magnetic came out in M, and, it would seem, everything is fine. Even very: in April, Metallica were introduced into the Hall of Fame Rock-n Roll, a bunch of star fans of the group, including FLI, Red Hot Chili Peppe, who, like a happy boy in the matinee, was invited to the ceremony, he read an introductory speech.
