Three years later, Sergei Turgenev left his family. Then the future writer first fell in love with Princess Ekaterina Shakhovskaya. Shakhovskaya exchanged letters with him, but reciprocated Turgenev’s father and thereby defeated his heart. Then he seriously became interested in the lyrics and wrote the first work - the dramatic poem "Wall". Turgenev spoke about her like this: "A completely absurd work in which, with frantic ineptness, a slave imitation of the Byronon Manfred was expressed." After studying, Summer Turgenev went to Europe to continue his education.

The European way of life was struck by Turgenev: he came to the conclusion that Russia should get rid of unculture, laziness, ignorance, following Western countries. In the X years, Turgenev returned to his homeland, received the degree of a master of Greek and Latin philology at St. Petersburg University, even wrote a dissertation - however, he did not defend it.

Interest in scientific activity was supplanted by the desire to write. Turgenev wanted to marry, but his mother with a scandal sent Avdotoy to Moscow, where she gave birth to a daughter Pelagia. The parents of Avdoty Ivanova hastily married her, and recognized Pelagia Turgenev only a few years later. In the year, under the initials of T. Turgenev-Lutovinov, the poem by Turgenev “Parasha” was released.

Researchers of Turgenev’s work still argue about the true nature of their relations.

Turgenev called him his “Annibal Oath” - a promise to fight to the end with the enemy whom he hated from childhood - with serfdom. Censors explained this by the fact that Turgenev, although poetized serfs, criminally exaggerated their suffering from the landlord oppression. The name of the hero of the novel has become a household name for people whose word is not consistent with deed.

The Russian philosopher and publicist Nikolai Strakhov wrote about him: “In“ Fathers and Children ”, he showed more clearly than in all other cases, that poetry remaining poetry ... can actively serve society ...”. The novel was perfectly accepted by critics, however, without receiving the support of the liberals. At this time, Turgenev’s relationship with many friends was complicated. Herzen saw the future of Russia in peasant socialism, believing that bourgeois Europe has outlived itself, and Turgenev defended the idea of strengthening the cultural ties of Russia and the West.

Acute criticism collapsed on Turgenev after the release of his novel “Smoke”. It was a pamphlet novel, which equally sharply ridiculed both the conservative Russian aristocracy and revolutionary liberals. According to the author, he was scolded by everything: "and red, and white, and from above, and from below, and on the side - especially from the side." He actively participated in the cultural life of Western Europe, promoted Russian literature abroad.

In the second half of the x, Turgenev published his largest novel “Nov”, in which he sharply satirically and critically depicted members of the revolutionary movement of the 10ths. At the same time, the popularity of early stories and novels by Turgenev did not decrease. The last years of the writer's life became his triumph both in Russia and abroad. Do not be you - how not to fall into despair at the sight of everything that is committed at home.

But one cannot believe that such a language is not given to the great people! This collection was the farewell of Turgenev with life and art. She was 25 years old when she played the role of Verochka in Turgenev’s play “A month in the village”. Seeing her on stage, Turgenev was amazed and openly admitted to the girl in feelings. Maria considered Turgenev rather a friend and a mentor, and their marriage did not take place.
