Dmitry Basov Biography
Born in the Old Believer family, which originated from the first settlers of the city, Dmitry Basov was the owner of the shop in the shops, sold old books and medicinal plants. But, according to Nikolai Chernov, in addition to this, "the meticulous merchant listened to the stories of the elderly about past times, recorded legends, traditions and interesting stories from them." Everything accumulated by Dmitry Ivanovich plus some of his own works included in the “History of the City of the Eagle” written by him by the year - a story about various events in the city from the moment of its occurrence until the beginning of the 19th century.
The manuscript of Basov a little later was in the collection of Peter Kireevsky. And he has a famous St. Petersburg journalist and publisher N. Nadezhdin read it and published excerpts of the History of the City of Orel in the journal Nord Review for the year. After another 10 years, another writer and ethnographer - Pavel Yakushkin met with Basov notes.
Pavel Ivanovich published some excerpts of them in the year in his “letters from the Oryol province”. All the local historians of the subsequent time - both the 19th and XX centuries, certainly, studying the history of the city of the eagle, the life and life of the townspeople, turned to the notes of Basov - simple, ingenuous, and therefore a very reliable story about the inhabitants of the regional center in the XVI - XIX centuries.
I think it would be time to publish the “History of the City of the Eagle” in the author’s version, because some works of Gabriel Pyasetskiy were currently published, who studied and used Basov’s notes in “Historical Essays of G. Dmitry Basov, historians did not find out, according to indirect data, he was born in the year, but died, at the summer age. The merchant and historian Dmitry Basov managed to write a little - only one work, even less from what he wrote saw light in print, but his name forever took its honorable place among the local historians of Oryolism: he was the first!
Vasily Katanov, in the book “Live Letters”, devoted a separate chapter to Dmitry Basov’s notebooks, outlined its contents in detail, talked about how she disappeared and was found and came to the conclusion that a long life given to him by fate, Dmitry Ivanovich “managed to live in memory of the descendants with his labor, unsceptingly, honest, sincere, mentioned by many, including many, including "Soviet historical encyclopedia" in the head of "Eagle".
