Martynov biography of the poet
Since the surname Konichev is listed next to the outgoing number, it is easy to assume that the checkpoint-writer Konstantin Ivanovich Konichev, who was at that time, who occupied the leading position in the PP of the OGPU of the Northern Territory, contributed to Martynov’s troubles and capabilities about the change of exile. Vologda, as amended by the newspaper Red North.
The term of exile is three years. It will end after 11 months - March 14. At the end of the year and at the beginning of the year, I submitted a request to you with a request to transfer me to Central Asia. These statements were caused by the fact that at the beginning of my stay in the North Territory, I was yearning for the usual atmosphere of work in the Asian part of the USSR, was sick of climate change, and did not master the new atmosphere of work.
I did not receive an answer to my petitions at that time. And after this, I did not repeat the petitions, since since the summer of the year I was completely mastered with work in the North Territory, went to the course of the interests of the region and, together with the party and public organizations of the Vologda, who, having checked me, allowed me to work, struggling for the transformation of the backward, deaf North into Socialist north.
I consider my work in Vologda a useful work for the working people, and for myself personally as a writer. In addition to daily operational work in the Krasny North newspaper, except for the premises of articles, essays, etc.
This is a book about collective farmers, about socialist restructuring of agriculture, about the competition of Vologda with Yaroslavl in livestock, about the introduction of new southern cultures in the fields of the North, about the colleagues-united industry, the industrial cooperation of the circle, Shipbuilders, toy, woodeners, several of my articles appeared in the regional newspaper Pravda North.
My literary activity did not meet a bad assessment here in Vologda. My work, I want to finally eliminate those political errors, to correct those who played into the hands of the Soviet system, which I did once and for which I paid from Moscow. Today I was called to the GPU special sector and announced that the place of links would be changed to Kazakhstan until the end of the term.
Now it has very upset me very much. I am considering this as an answer to my petitions of the before last and last year, when I strove to Central Asia for the reasons indicated above. But now, as you see, the circumstances have changed dramatically. I feel useful here, I studied the local situation, under the leadership of the Northern Party Organization, I want to help the workers of the Northern Territory carry out historical decisions of the XVII Party Congress, the unconditionally faithful policy of the I.
party leader I ask to leave me here, in the Northern Territory, in Vologda. I believe that the transfer of me to Kazakhstan will not benefit anyone and nothing. This, in any case, is not useful to me, but harmful. Moving, work to work, mastering this work, the device of domestic conditions will take months. And I need these months to further collect materials and the completion of the book that I mention.
So I thought to use those short months for years! And after that, I will probably continue to work in the northern edge, in any case, with pleasure and benefit for myself and others I will work in the Red North newspaper, where I, apparently, are not superfluous. I think that my petition will be supported by both the head of the Red North newspaper and the writer of the Northern Territory.
The move to Kazakhstan, in addition to separation from work on the book and newspaper work, except for the loss of precious time, does not promise me anything in the summer today. In this statement, I use the case to declare again that I have long done my political mistakes and errors. I try to prove it with my work. The only thing that burdens me is the shameful title of exile. Without exciting this time an official petition for early release, I still assure you that, having freed myself from the shameful title of exile, I will continue to work with even greater energy and joy.
